HEAL YOUR INNER CHILD

Inner Child.jpg

Life is tough and many of us walk around with scars from our past. Learn how to get in touch with your scars and let them provide you with wisdom and compassion. Instead of repeating your past, use it to make the world a better place for those around you.

But before you can make the world a better place for those around you, you must first use your past to make your internal world a better place for yourself. There might be unhealed wounds from your childhood that you've suppressed into the basement of your mind. Perhaps your parents did not provide you with what you truly needed, or maybe they didn't set a good example for you to follow. This is where "Inner Child Work" comes in. Our "Inner Child" refers to the part of our minds that connects with our childhood experience. To make it easier to understand, imagine that your "child self" still exists within you and that this part of you might be in great pain that was never fully addressed.

Ask yourself the following, have you helped your Inner Child to fully heal and to recover from what happened in the past? Or did you simply sweep it under the carpet, pretending that it never happened?

Your "child self" most likely did not have the wisdom, ability and awareness to deal with these experiences properly. But your "adult self" does. Inner Child Work involves having the wiser and more mature "adult self" revisit the traumas in the past, telling the internal "child self" that they are forgiven, that it was not their fault, and that they did not deserve what they've been through.

This also involves "reparenting" your Inner Child. Throughout our childhood, we pick up negative behaviours, beliefs and habits that might be holding us back in life. Reparenting is the act of reteaching yourself, giving yourself what you didn't receive as a child, and being the person that you needed when you were younger... for yourself.

Focus on providing the following for yourself:

- Trust and respect

- Emotional support and understanding

- Self-love and self-acceptance

- Encouragement and support

- A healthy and loving Inner Dialogue

- Consistency and structure

- Physical support

Be who you needed when you were younger!
